The cabins are basic, but comfortable. Each one has its own bathroom with a shower, a heater, a nice covered sitting porch and everyone gets a bed with warm blankets. The kids get to sleep in bunk beds, which completes the "camp" experience for them.
The staff serves up 3 great meals each day, and there is a beer/wine bar with plenty of snack options in the lodge. A really great perk is that there are TWO dinners served every night: the kids eat first, then the recreation staff takes them outside for fun and games while their parents sit down for a relaxing dinner with adult conversation!!!
Great for families.
I daydream about this place regularly. My experience and memories are probably much different then the rest of the guests; because in 2008 there was a large fire near that area - long hike in and out everyday - The forest had organized the crews to camp where we were hiking from, but eat at the ranch, including them making our lunches. Let me just say that outside the views of this area which area amazing, the food at the ranch would make me go back. I can remember eating till I was stuffed and being excited everyday to get down the hill to see what amazing dinner they had prepared from scratch; an amazing vegetarian option as well. The accommodations I cannot speak for outside the bathhouse and the main 'lodge'. The building is cute and rustic, and I remember a fully stocked bar that I couldn't partake in. The showers were ample and had lovely hot water. I wanted to take a dip in the pool as well but obviously being filthy from the fire that wouldn't happen. This place is amazing and I keep hoping that one day I will return as a guest. Till then do it for me! - And thanks to the ranch for being so accommodating!
I must disclose that I'm a little biased since I have been coming here every summer for 35 YEARS with my family. But then, a lot of families have been coming here for similar stretches, and there is a reason why.
Stunning views of the Trinity Alps wilderness area everywhere you look. Pick from one of 20+ lakes that you want to day-hike to...and the staff will pack you a lunch before you go. Would you rather sit by the pool than hike all day? They've got one of those, too...it's surrounded by a lush meadow and an 8000' snow-capped mountain.
